39. Spring Runs & “Press”

I love the Spring.
Flowers everywhere and an abundance of what the Little people & I call “God’s litter”…the pretty dusting all over the ground of the flower petals that fall off the trees!
Spring signifies hope…new beginnings…the sunshine appears from the gloom of rainy winter months and we suddenly swap our sombre black & grey wardrobes for splashes of colour & print. People smile at each other as they walk along the street….and sometimes…..they talk to each other too! *Gasp!*
Obviously there is the gluttony & delight of Easter, but for me spring is all about birthdays…both of my brothers and of course my ray of sunshine…my son. Birthdays are a bit like Christmas for me – they are magical milestones that I get just as excited about as the person whose birthday it is!
When I was first diagnosed with Melanoma & first told how “serious” it was there was that moment of panic…how many birthdays would I be there for. What milestones that I have previously taken for granted that I will be there for, will happen without me.
photo 1I try to live my life now in the mind frame of “it might not be me” & “by eating my Superfoods & drinking my green tea I can beat this”…..but I have Melanoma…and I know the statistics…I know how fickle and unpredictable it can be…so instead I treasure special days……….and take approximately 2 million photos which isn’t exactly helpful to anyone!
Talking of photos……
Because of the run that I am doing…(you know the run I am talking about – that 10K run at Westonbirt Arboretum in June that you are going to sponsor me for x sponsor link below!)…I decided to contact the local papers.
We are trying to raise £5K for melanoma research & publicity / exposure will hopefully help us reach that target. So the local papers have run a story and popped a picture of me in them and another picture of most of the team that I am running the 10K with.
Simultaneously “It Takes 7”, the charity that I am fundraising for, contacted me to say that they are doing a press release next week with The Daily Mail. A big feature spread with 6 people whose lives have all been touched by Melanoma.

I have done my telephone interview, had a photographer come to the house and take hundreds of pictures and now I wait to see how it reads.
I have to hope that the message and angle they take is positive. My fingers are crossed that the points that I think are extremely important have been covered.
I have always said that all awareness about Melanoma is good awareness……let’s hope I don’t need to change my motto!
Here is that sponsorship link so that you can help me and the team raise money to find a cure:
